2008 KPAS Project of the Year
Project was awarded 2008 Kansas Paving Association State Project of the Year
The City of Scott City was having drainage and saturation issues at their airport. It was unclear where the moisture was coming from. They partnered with EBH to assist with the engineering on this project. This project included a complete reconstruction of 75’ x 5000’ asphalt runway to 6” concrete runway with subgrade modified base and edge drain system. Utilizing subgrade modified base using the asphalt millings from the old runway mixed with soil and fly ash was a cost savings technique.
The biggest challenge was the time frame to complete the project, because the runway closure to completion had to be kept to a minimum number of days. The two top priorities for this project included long lasting pavement and short duration lane closure.
